The NDIS can provide all participants access to information and connections in their communities, such as allied health professionals, community access groups, and support coordinators etc. It also provides details about what support is provided by each state or territory government.

National: The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is steadily phased throughout all Australian states and territories.

Disability: It also delivers early intervention care and support to participants with disabilities.

Insurance: The NDIS gives all Australians peace of mind if they, their child or loved one is born with or acquires a permanent and significant disability, they will get the support they need.

Scheme: The design of the National Disability Insurance Scheme was created with one purpose in mind: to help participants get back on their feet and live as independently as possible by providing them with skills training.

Participants in the NDIS are eligible for several supports to help them achieve their goals. These include:

  • Daily personal activities
  • Transportation services to enable participation in community, social, economic, and life activities
  • Workplace assistance to aid participants in acquiring or maintaining employment in the open or supported workforce
  • Therapeutic supports including behaviour support
  • Support in domestic duties so that participants can maintain their homes
  • Aids or equipment evaluation, installation, and training by dedicated professionals
  • Design and construction of home modifications
  • Mobility tools and equipment
  • Alterations to vehicles

A support coordinator is a person who is assigned to ensure that you receive all services you require. If you are unhappy with a service or need assistance with organising a service, it is the support coordinators role to organise these services for you. Usually support coordinators are only available if a participant has support coordination funding in their plan, however here at TLK Care we have a team of friendly support coordinators that are assigned to each participant.

A plan manager is a person that is assigned to pay all plan managed plan’s invoices. Not all NDIS plans are plan managed and therefore not all participants will have a plan manager. The difference between plan managed plans and other plans is that you have the flexibility to use services that are not necessarily NDIS registered.

If you are younger than the age of 18 or require a person to speak on your behalf the NDIS will need you to complete a ‘right to an advocate’ form. The NDIS must confirm all your identity and must get consent from the participant in person in order to approve the application. This is done to ensure that the rights of the participant are protected.

It is a requirement from the NDIA to have a service agreement signed between the participant and the provider in order to clearly state the rights of each party. Service agreements include details of both parties, the rights of each party, the prices of the services, the dates between which the services will take place, details of the participant and the provider.

There may be a variety of reasons as to why you would want to change your service provider and different providers have different notice periods they require. With all supports and services if you want to change a service provider they will need 30 days notice in writing in order to release their services. This will allow the service provider to close all the accounts including any outstanding amounts you may have had, as well as give the provider sufficient time to notify all the employees of the changes. However, in order to reduce any delay with your services the provider will generally try and have the services closed as soon as possible.
